It was discussed briefly long ago. The subject circle increases in size as its distance from the photographer position increases. This will represent better the coverage of the image. Even better, a variable sized segment of a circle with its point on the camera position could be used its width controlled by the submitter to allow for varying telephoto usage - yes, all are approximations but all more representative than a single size circle.
